Today's work. First rendering using 3ds Max.

Nothing quite like blasting through a project in one day.

The brief for my visual language project was to design a domestic dehumidifier; but give it a brand identity which is not normally connected with domestic well being products.

The selected brands were Ducati (a well established sports motorbike company) and Bang & Olufsen (a luxury audio and visual products).

Below is some of B&O's products followed by my concept sketch work for this brand.

With B&O I was particularly curious with their use of negative space and the finishes on surfaces and how they made beautiful objects using simple geometry. This is what I tried to play with while sketching concepts.

The Ducati concepts will also be posted soon along with some development sketch work for both brands.

A short post just to make you aware that I will be uploading some of my own work tomorrow hopefully. I have not had access to a scanner in order to transfer my physical drawings into a digital format; but I will take some time out tomorrow to show off a bit of my visual language project.

The piece of work I'm posting is unfortunately not my own, but a gorgeous chair i'm researching for a project; designed by Eero Aarnio in 1963.
Many people say that Aarnio's Ball Chair reflects the sci-fi boom in the 1960s, but the designer claims its unique spherical form was almost an accident. "The media thought it was inspired by Sputnik, but it wasn’t. The ideal form in nature –maximal strength, minimal materials—is the sphere and that is where I got my inspiration." *(source at foot)

Other than it's exquisite, luxurious form, the ball chair was innovative in how it was made, wrapping fiberglass around a thin sheet mould and upholstering the inside.

Aarnio's Ball Chair will continue to inspire designers for centuries to come, it's simple, unobtrusive geometric form being astonishingly beautiful and innovative.
