The piece of work I'm posting is unfortunately not my own, but a gorgeous chair i'm researching for a project; designed by Eero Aarnio in 1963.
Many people say that Aarnio's Ball Chair reflects the sci-fi boom in the 1960s, but the designer claims its unique spherical form was almost an accident. "The media thought it was inspired by Sputnik, but it wasn’t. The ideal form in nature –maximal strength, minimal materials—is the sphere and that is where I got my inspiration." *(source at foot)

Other than it's exquisite, luxurious form, the ball chair was innovative in how it was made, wrapping fiberglass around a thin sheet mould and upholstering the inside.

Aarnio's Ball Chair will continue to inspire designers for centuries to come, it's simple, unobtrusive geometric form being astonishingly beautiful and innovative.
